Yard Waste

Yard waste is picked up with regular waste, and must be at your curb before 7am on Mondays.

When discarding yard waste, keep the following in mind:

  • Grass clippings and/or leaves must be in bags or in a separate container properly labeled “Yard Waste”.
  • Discarded tree branches/limbs cannot be larger than 4 feet long and 4 inches in diameter.
  • Limbs/branches must be bundled together with rope or string.
  • Each bundle cannot exceed 40 lbs.

Loose limbs/branches will NOT be picked up if they are not prepared as described above.

Considering loose and unbundled items, you must schedule a special pickup by Public Works. You will be charged a minimum of $25.00.

There is a weekly limit of six (6) bags, bundles, or a combination of the two (this includes trash bin and recycle bin) for a total of eight (8) items.

The following items are not acceptable:

  • Tree trunks/stumps
  • Limbs greater than 4” in diameter
  • Whole trees
  • Logs
  • Dirt
  • Rocks

Bulky Waste

When we say bulky waste, we mean sofas, chairs, mattresses, washers, dryers, and other household goods. These will be accepted on Monday, your service day.

But, you must submit a request to City Hall by the Thursday (3pm) prior to the regular pickup day (Mondays), to schedule bulky waste service.

Refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, and any other items containing Freon are NOT acceptable. They must be recycled elsewhere. Contact Newell Recycling of Gwinnett at (770) 446-6883.

Any construction materials will not be picked up by Waste Management or the City.

Special Pick-up

Single bulky items will be picked up by Waste Management. You will be charged additionally if you need multiple items to be picked up. These items include couches, mattresses, loveseats, chairs, etc. You can contact City Hall to request a Special Pick-up.


To ensure the quality of Waste Management services, Clarkston will conduct a weekly trash/refuse survey. Any violations could require a special pickup by Public Works.
