$409,966 Awarded to City of Clarkston to Enhance Public Safety and Reduce Community Violence

The City of Clarkston is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a grant of $409,966 through the state’s Public Safety and Community Violence Reduction program. This funding will be instrumental in strengthening our commitment to public safety and implementing innovative solutions to reduce community violence.

The grant program, pioneered during the COVID-19 pandemic, intended to address a dip in public-sector law enforcement. The money can be spent on law enforcement staffing, violent crime reduction, equipment, and community violence interventions.

"With this generous grant, we are taking significant steps towards creating a safer and more secure community," said Mayor Beverly Burks. "The funding will enable us to leverage cutting-edge technology and equip our law enforcement professionals with the tools they need to address public safety challenges and reduce community violence effectively."

The City of Clarkston plans to use the funds for community engagement initiatives focused on violence reduction. We aim to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and residents through outreach programs, education campaigns, and partnerships with community organizations. Trust, transparency, and cooperation are key tools for violence reduction and crime prevention.

The City of Clarkston also plans to invest in cloud-based, digital infrastructure. These cutting-edge software tools will support our law enforcement agencies' efforts in crime prevention, emergency response, and community engagement. The cloud-based infrastructure will provide secure and efficient data storage and analysis. Information-sharing platforms will facilitate real-time collaboration between departments and agencies.

Improved cloud-based technology will also strengthen our officers’ data-driven decision-making. By leveraging advanced analytics and data integration, Clarkston’s law enforcement agencies will better identify crime trends proactively, allocate resources effectively, and develop targeted strategies to prevent crimes.

The City of Clarkston is committed to building a resilient and thriving community where every resident feels safe and secure. This grant represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to address public safety challenges and create a nurturing environment for all.

Together we are Clarkston.
