Clarkston City Councilman Awet Eyasu Resigns

(CITY OF CLARKSTON, GA – March 11, 2024) – On Thursday, March 7, 2024, City Councilman Awet Eyasu effectively resigned from his seat on the Clarkston City Council by qualifying to run for the elected office of DeKalb County School Board Member. The Clarkston City Council will need to declare the vacancy and call a special election to be held on November 5, 2024, to elect a person to serve the remainder of Mr. Eyasu’s term of office through the end of 2027.

City Councilman Awet Eyasu issued the following statement after vacating his seat. “Over the past 8 years, it has been a source of great pride to serve the diverse Clarkston Community in the City Hall, and this experience has prepared me to represent them on a broader scale as a school board member. I am devoted to remaining actively engaged and continuing my dedication to serving the community,” said Eyasu.
