The City of Clarkston Appoints First Director of Human Resources and Risk Management
(CLARKSTON, Ga. – August 16, 2024) – In a groundbreaking move to enhance its workforce and strengthen city operations, the City of Clarkston is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Dwight L. Baker as its first-ever Director of Human Resources and Risk Management.
The creation of this new position comes as part of Clarkston's broader vision to build a more resilient and effective local government. Recognizing the importance of strong human resources and risk management practices, the city embarked on a rigorous search to find a leader who could navigate the complexities of public sector HR while fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. With nearly three decades of experience, Dr. Baker brings the expertise and leadership necessary to shape the future of recruitment efforts and drive the city's mission forward.
Dr. Baker's career is distinguished by his extensive experience in public sector HR leadership, including notable roles such as Director of Human Resources and Risk Management for the City of College Park, GA, and Director of Human Resources for the City of Albany, GA.

In addition to his extensive professional experience, Dr. Baker holds a Doctor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management and a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Capella University. He is also an active member of several key professional organizations, including the Public Sector Human Resources Association (PSHRA), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and the Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA).
