Municipal Court

The Municipal Court of Clarkston operates under the laws of the State of Georgia and has jurisdiction over local ordinance violations, most traffic violations, code enforcement matters, and certain misdemeanor criminal offenses that occur within the city limits of Clarkston. Upon a finding of guilt, the Court may impose fines, fees, probation, and/or incarceration as permitted by law.

The Administration of the Clarkston Municipal Court is committed to maintaining accurate court records, properly accounting for all fines and fees, and providing fair, efficient, and dependable adjudication of all matters brought before the Court. The Court strives to ensure that all court users are afforded ready access to services while receiving courteous, professional, and respectful assistance.

The Court also remains dedicated to public awareness, education, and the continued improvement of court procedures in order to provide excellent customer service to the community. Staff members are available to assist with questions regarding court matters, including citations, arrests made by the Clarkston Police Department, court appearances, fines, fees, and payment information.

Background Checks (Georgia only).

One (1) copy of a court disposition will be provided free charge. Certified copies of court dispositions are available for a fee of $5.00 per copy.

When is court in session?

Court is held five (5) times per month, except during major holidays or as otherwise scheduled by the Court. Defendants may find their scheduled court appearance date and time listed on the citation issued at the time of the offense.

When are trials held?

Trials are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:00pm, except during major holidays or as otherwise scheduled by the Court.

All About Payments

Citations may take up to 72 hours from the date of issuance to be processes and available. If, after 72 hours, you are still unable to access your citation online, please contact the Court immediately for assistance. Please note that citations requiring a mandatory court appearance are not eligible for online payment and must be addressed in person before the Court.

Accepted forms of payment

Accepted forms of payment include MasterCard, Visa, American Express, money order, or cash (in person only). Personal checks are not accepted, and payments may not be made over the phone.

You may CLICK HERE to pay a fine online. Online payments are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except on your scheduled court date. Please note that additional fees apply when paying online. On your court date, online payments will only be accepted until 9:00 a.m. 

Avoiding late penalties

Please ensure that all citations are paid on or before your scheduled court date and time. If you are unable to do so, you are required to appear in court on the scheduled date and at the scheduled time.

If you fail to appear in court, your status will be considered a “Failure to Appear.” At that point, you must contact the Court regarding any fines and fees associated with your absence.

In regard to newly-retained cases, the Court requests at least a 48-hour courtesy notice prior to the scheduled court date and time.

In any area of conflict, the Court requests at least 30 days of notice prior to the scheduled court date and time.

Probation

Professional Probation Services, Inc. (PPS) is contracted with the Clarkston Municipal Court to manage the Probation Division. This division monitors defendants who are required to comply with special conditions imposed by the Court, as well as those who are unable to pay their required fines and/or fees on their scheduled court date.

Please be advised that Professional Probation Services does not maintain an office at this location. They are present at the Court only on scheduled court days and reporting days and do not receive messages at the Court. Municipal Courtroom Dress and Conduct Code

The following dress code applies to all persons entering the courtroom:

  • Males: Shall wear shoes, long pants, and shirts.
  • Females: Shall wear shoes, dresses, skirts, or long pants, with blouses, sweaters, or casual dress shirts.
  • Shorts, tank tops, bare midriffs, halter tops, flip-flops, and hats/ball caps are not acceptable dress for court (except for religious purposes)
  • All pagers, cell phones, and electronic devices brought into the courtroom shall be kept in the "off" mode at all times.
  • Any deviation from the above code shall be approved on a case-by-case basis by the presiding judge.
