mell

Overview

The City of Clarkston is hosting a Public Information Open House to discuss a proposed safety and operational improvement project for intersections along Mell Avenue. This project aims to realign Northern Avenue and Mell Avenue at Church Street, with upgrades at the intersections of Mell Avenue with Church Street and East Ponce de Leon Avenue. Planned improvements include synchronized traffic signals with railroad signals, the addition of left-turn lanes, and other enhancements to improve traffic flow and safety. The project spans approximately 0.6 miles and will not require off-site detours.

Project FAQs

How Can You Assist?

Your feedback is valuable. We welcome comments on the proposed design and any resources that are important to you or the community. Let us know if there are events that could be impacted by construction.

Where Are We Now?

The project is in the Concept Design Phase, which includes developing the Design Concept, identifying environmental resources, and conducting public outreach.

Next Steps

Following the public meeting:

  • Feedback will be evaluated.
  • Revisions to the project may be made or a “no build” alternative may be selected.
  • If significant changes are proposed, additional public outreach will take place.
  • If no major changes are needed, the project will move to right-of-way (ROW) acquisition and final design, eventually leading to construction.

When Will Construction Begin?

  • Estimated Construction Start: 2027
  • Expected Completion Date: Early 2029

What if My Property is Affected?
The City prioritizes minimizing disruption. No family or individual will be asked to relocate until safe and comparable housing is available. Assistance will be provided to businesses and nonprofit organizations to help them relocate within the community if needed.

ROW (Right-of-Way) Acquisition
Details regarding ROW acquisition are currently under review. Property owners will be informed once the plan is finalized.

Impact on Businesses

  • Construction Phase: We do not anticipate suspending operations for businesses within the project area.
  • Post-Construction: The impact on surrounding businesses is still under consideration, but significant impacts are not expected.
